The Governors would like to celebrate the immense amount of excellent and successful Learning and Teaching which takes place at Blackpool and The Fylde College, which contributes to changing the lives of so many of our learners.

These awards are designed to celebrate the importance of staff who deliver or support learning. There are 3 awards of £750.00 for the overall winners, and all nominated candidates will receive a certificate and be part of a celebratory event at the end of term.

Nominations will be accepted from the 17th April 2012 to the 18th May 2012.

You can email your nomination to Sue Edgington, Quality and Standards at sedg@blackpool.ac.uk or put your nomination into the 'Gold Boxes' at all Reception, LRC and Student Services areas (where applicable).

Alternatively, you can look out for the forthcoming MiPod events at selected campuses.

Following the closing date a selection panel (including members from the Board of Governors and relevant managers) will meet to make the final selection.

The Students' Union is running a poster competition to encourage FE students to take part in the national Learner Satisfaction Survey.

The LSS is an online national student survey for Further Education students that aims to improve colleges across the country by providing learners with information from other students on their learning experience. Colleges and Students' Unions can also use this infomation to identify areas of improvement or particular strengths.

The college's main push for the survey is between 16th-24th April and posters can include this info but MUST include the web address www.ipsos-mori.com/learnersatisfaction and the college code 10000754.

The LSS logo is available for download above (right-click the logo and select 'Save image as...' or 'Save picture as...').

First prize is £50 of High Street vouchers, second prize £25 and third £10. Entries must be emailed to SUComms@blackpool.ac.uk by 20th Jan.

Cycle theft is on the increase, especially at this time of the year. Help us to help you by following a few basic tips to avoid your cycle from being stolen:

1. Purchase a recommended cycle cable lock, long enough to thread between wheels, frame and securing stand.
2. Purchase a recommended 'D type' shackle lock as a secondary measure to secure frame to securing stand.
3. Ensure the locks are difficult to access to unlock because if they are difficult for you to open then it will be difficult for a thief.
4. Get your cycle chemically etched by the Police, not only will they do this free of charge, they will give you a free, quality cycle lock. If you are interested in this service contact Estates - Campus Services Manager for details (kbr@blackpool.ac.uk or 01253 504248).
5. Report any suspicious persons to security staff or Reception, especially if they seem to be interested in the cycles already secured in location.

The Loop at Bispham will be running daily 'drop in sessions' until the end of the autumn term between 4pm-5pm to give extra help to students who are struggling to use the college computer system.

If you are having problems with accessing emails, your work from home, Word, PowerPoint and Excel or just want to be able to use the internet effectively, then come along to one of the sessions and we will be able to guide you through it.
